Prep Roundup: Bountiful softball edges Box Elder in first-place pitchers’ duel

BRIGHAM CITY — McHailee Danner tossed a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts and Bountiful softball (11-2, 6-1 Region 5) edged Box Elder (10-3, 5-2) by a 2-0 margin in a battle of first-place teams Thursday.

Alyssa Bowles hit a solo home run for Bountiful and Sophia Stoddard drove in a run.

Brylee Marziale took the loss, pitching the complete game and allowing two earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts.

ROY 9, VIEWMONT 6

Ana Palmer had two hits and drove in four runs as Roy (8-6, 5-2 Region 5) held off Viewmont (1-12, 0-8). The Royals led 2-0 until the Vikings scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.

Roy responded with a run in the top of the fifth and the teams exchanged runs until the Royals put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh.

Morgan Tanner had two RBIs for Viewmont and Emily Barton had three hits.

DAVIS 12, NORTHRIDGE 1

Mia Cullimore went 2 for 2 with a double, a three-run home run and a sacrifice fly as Davis (10-5-1, 5-2 Region 1) beat Northridge (1-11, 0-6) by run rule in four innings to remain tied for second place in Region 1 with Clearfield.

Sidney Eyre hit 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Maggie Miller drove in three runs for Davis.

BEAR RIVER 11, MOUNTAIN CREST 1

Bear River strung eight consecutive hits together in a nine-run second inning as the Bears (13-2, 5-0 Region 12) beat Mountain Crest (9-4, 4-2) by run rule in five innings to win their 11th consecutive game.

Bailey Theurer went 4 for 4 with an RBI, Ashley Hess hit 3 for 3 with an RBI double in the second inning and Josie Larkin hit a three-run home run.

Kapri Toone pitched a complete game, allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts. She also hit a two-run double in the second.

Oaklee Trapp went 2 for 2 with an RBI double.

CLEARFIELD 5, FREMONT 4

Kaycee Valencia drove in three runs and Braxtyn Haynes pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts as Clearfield (11-3, 5-2 Region 1) topped Fremont (6-11, 4-3).

Clearfield broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Valencia’s lone hit was a home run. Macy Benincosa hit 2 for 3 and Jessie Golder went 2 for 4 for the Falcons.

Jadie Aiken hit a three-run home run as Fremont struck back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t tie the game. Hunter Pales went 3 for 4 with a double and Hadley Bennett went 2 for 3.

BEAR LAKE-ID 18, OGDEN 1

Bear Lake collected 10 hits and 14 walks as the Bears beat Ogden (4-3) by run rule in four innings. The Tigers scored their lone run in the bottom of the first.

BONNEVILLE 18, PARK CITY 0

Bonneville scored eight runs in both the first and second innings as the Lakers (5-7, 3-2 Region 11) beat Park City by run rule in three innings.

Izzy Togisala went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Sadie Westmoreland hit 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Talia Afuvai hit a double. Bree Pederson batted 2 for 3 with an RBI as the Lakers scored 18 runs on 18 hits.

POSTPONED

Layton at Weber: Rescheduled to April 27 because only one umpire showed up.

BOYS SOCCER

NORTHRIDGE 3, CLEARFIELD 0

Carson Smith scored a brace and Jake Hotchkiss added a third goal, all in the first half, as Northridge shut out Clearfield (2-6-2, 1-5-1 Region 1).

The Knights (3-4-2, 3-4) moved into a tie for fourth place in the region with Fremont.

DAVIS 1, SYRACUSE 0

Josh Hardwood scored in the first half as Davis beat Syracuse (3-8, 1-6 Region 1). Zach Bingham recorded the shutout in goal for the Darts (9-3, 5-2).

BASEBALL

SUMMIT ACADEMY 14, MORGAN 2

Summit Academy scored eight runs in the second inning as the Bears buried Morgan (6-13, 2-9 Region 13).
