Sundance bringing 'Butch Cassidy' screening to Ogden Amphitheater in July

Wednesday , June 06, 2018 - 12:00 PM7 comments

PARK CITY — Sundance is returning to Ogden for one night this summer.

Starting in June and running through August, the Sundance Institute is providing free screenings of 11 Sundance Film Festival movies in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Park City, Kamas and St. George.

“We’re excited to share our Summer Film Series this year with more cities around Utah,” said LaraLee Ownby, assistant director of Utah Community Programs for Sundance Institute, in a press release. “This year’s lineup features films ranging from comedy to adventure to real-life drama, and with a schedule full of games and activities to go along with these great films, these screenings will have something for everyone throughout the state.”

The Sundance Institute decided in 2016 that there would no longer be January Sundance Film Festival events at Ogden’s Peery’s Egyptian Theater, but it said it would replace those events with a variety of local screenings during the summer and fall.

A free showing of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”  will be held Monday, July 23, at the Ogden Amphitheater. The gates open at 6 p.m. and film will start at 7:30 p.m. The classic western film stars Robert Redford and Paul Newsman as the infamous bank-robbing duo.

Other films being screened this summer include:

  • “Dolores,” June 16, at the Park City Library in Park City
  • “Brigsby Bear,” June 28 at the Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City
  • ”Man on Wire,” July 6 at City Park in Park City
  • ”STEP,” July 11 at the Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City
  • ”Believer,” July 18 at the Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City
  • “RED DOG: True Blue,” Aug. 4 at City Park in Park City
  • ”Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,” Aug. 9 at Dejoria Center in Kamas
  • ”Seeing Allred,” Aug. 22 at the Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City
  • “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” Aug. 24 at the Dolores Dore Eccles Fine Arts Center in St. George
  • Utah Community Choice film, Aug. 29 at Red Butte Garden Amphitheater in Salt Lake City

Some showings also include special features like Q&A panels and concerts before or after the event. For more information, visit http://www.sundance.org/festivals/utah-community/
