TBT 2018 bracket: Matchups for Utah-related teams announced

Wednesday , June 06, 2018 - 5:34 PM

Utah-related basketball teams learned their matchups Wednesday as The Basketball Tournament revealed its bracket for the fifth-annual, winner-takes-all hoops competition.

The field expands from 64 to 72 this year, adding play-in games for lower seeds. Teams are typically comprised of players who are overseas professionals, former NBA and college players, or NBA players not currently under contract. The prize stash for the winning team is $2 million and ESPN carries every game on cable or online.

Team Fredette, with coach-turned player Jimmer Fredette, landed a two-seed in the Midwest Region — a signal that TBT organizers expect his team to be a threat to win it all. His team, which includes former BYU teammate Charles Abouo and a smattering of former Division-I college players, will face the winner of a 15-seed play-in game in Columbus, Ohio.

Team Utah, a group of Utes alumni, is an 11-seed facing six-seed Few Good Men (Gonzaga alumni) for the third straight year. Team Utah features Shaun Green, Tim Drisdom and Dakarai Tucker, among other former Utes. That game will take place in Spokane, Washington.

Utah Valor, a team organized by Ogden native Bryan Tracy, drew a 16-seed and will face No. 17 Fort Hood Wounded Warriors in a play-in matchup for the right to face one-seed Team Challenge ALS, last year’s runner-up. That region plays in Los Angeles.

Most first-round games will stream on WatchESPN, while select second-round games will air on ESPN and ESPN2 with the rest on WatchESPN. The Round of 16 onward will air on ESPN channels.

The rounds of 16 and 8 will be played at Georgia State University in Atlanta, and Baltimore’s Morgan State University will host the final two rounds.
